The St. Thomas Sailing Center (STSC) is seeking a motivated, hands-on Maintenance & Fleet Operations Coordinator to help maintain and operate one of the Caribbean’s premier community sailing programs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working around sailboats, marine systems, and waterfront operations while being part of a fun and energetic sailing environment.
The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, self-motivated, and capable of managing projects independently while also working closely with staff, instructors, and contractors.
## Primary Responsibilities
### Fleet Maintenance & Repairs
* Create and maintain a maintenance schedule to keep the STSC fleet in excellent condition
* Inspect boats regularly and perform timely repairs
* Perform fiberglass and gelcoat repairs
* Maintain, repair, and replace running and standing rigging on sailboats
* Conduct bottom work including sanding, fairing, repairs, and applying bottom paint
* Repair and replace hardware including winches, cleats, tillers, rudder fittings, and related systems
* Assist with diesel and outboard troubleshooting and maintenance
* Maintain inventory of parts and hardware while working with the Director to procure supplies
* Take a leadership role in annual haul-outs, maintenance periods, and relaunching of STSC boats
Fleet Operations
* Check boats and equipment in and out for STYC boat access members and other users
* Learn to safely operate boats with outboard motors
* Learn hip tow and long tow procedures for boats on the water
* Assist with trailering, securing, towing, and servicing trailers
* Maintain clean and organized maintenance rooms, storage containers, and sailing instruction areas
Hurricane & Seasonal Preparation
* Assist with off-season and hurricane preparation procedures
* Secure boats, decommission and derig vessels, remove and replace masts
* Implement approved hurricane plans to protect STSC assets during named storms
Team Leadership & Facility Support
* Manage maintenance projects and support staff with assistance from the Director
* Assist in supervising employees and contractors hired for repairs and maintenance projects
* Serve as Manager of the Day on a rotating basis with other STSC staff members
* Perform race committee duties for Hobie fleets after training
* Work collaboratively with staff and take direction on larger projects
* Operate independently without constant supervision while maintaining strong communication
Qualifications
* Experience with sailboat maintenance, marine systems, or related trades preferred
* Fiberglass, rigging, and mechanical experience highly desirable
* Ability to lift heavy equipment and work outdoors in tropical marine conditions
* Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
* Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
* Valid driver’s license preferred
* Boating and sailing experience is a plus, but training can be provided
