Island Adventures / New Horizons & Breakaway Charters is a family-owned charter and tour operator based in St. Thomas with over 40 years of experience on the water. We operate snorkeling trips, sunset sails, and private charters aboard both power vessels and sailing catamarans.
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a full-time, year-round multi-passenger Captain to operate both power and sailing vessels for our charter operations.
The ideal candidate must have strong vessel handling skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for guests.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
• Current U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License (Minimum 50 Ton)
• Experience operating multi-passenger vessels
• Ability to operate both powerboats and sailing vessels
• Strong knowledge of boating safety and navigation
• Friendly and professional disposition with guests
• Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays
Responsibilities
• Safely operate charter vessels in waters around St. Thomas, St. John, and surrounding areas
• Conduct passenger safety briefings
• Ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations
• Provide a welcoming and professional guest experience
• Coordinate with crew members during trips
• Perform pre-trip vessel checks and maintain vessel cleanliness
• Monitor weather and sea conditions for safe operations
Preferred Experience:
• Charter or tour boat experience
• Knowledge of local snorkeling locations and anchorages
• Sailing experience on catamarans
• Experience working with large groups of guests
Compensation:
Compensation is competitive.
Position includes base pay plus gratuities.
